About Us
Kopala is a family-owned enterprise based in Fraserburgh, Scotland, operating under Mewstead (Fraserburgh) LLP. Our flagship vessel, KOPALA INS64, has been harvesting high-quality langoustines since 2007. We fish year-round in the rich waters of the North Sea and the Hebrides on the west coast of Scotland, ensuring a consistent supply of fresh, sustainable seafood.
Our team of experienced crew members prioritizes safety, quality, and efficiency, landing our catch in key ports such as Fraserburgh, Peterhead, and Ullapool after 10-14 day trips. We’re eager to build connecitions with new wholesalers who value premium, traceable products.
Our Mission
To provide wholesalers with the freshest frozen langoustines, processed at sea to lock in peak flavor and nutrition. We aim to build long-term partnerships based on reliability, transparency, and superior product quality, while upholding the highest standards of maritime safety and environmental responsibility. Our goal is to diversify our buyer network and bring the best of Scottish seafood to global markets.
Our Vessel
The KOPALA INS64 is a state-of-the-art fishing vessel built in 2007, with an overall length of 19.95 meters and a gross tonnage of 166. Registered in Inverness with PLN number INS64 and IMO number 9414694, she is fully certified under the UK Fishing Vessels (Codes of Practice) Regulations 2017. Equipped for operations in sea areas A1 and A2, the vessel features advanced navigation, radio, and safety equipment to ensure safe and efficient fishing. Our onboard cold storage holds up to 20 tons at -25°C, allowing us to maintain product integrity from catch to delivery.
Our Products
Our core product is premium frozen-at-sea langoustines (also known as Nephrops or prawns), harvested from the clean, cold waters surrounding Scotland. These langoustines are renowned for their sweet, delicate flavor and firm texture, making them ideal for high-end restaurants, retailers, and processors. With a shelf life of 36 months when stored properly, our products are labeled in full compliance with European export legislation, ensuring traceability and quality assurance.
Our Process
We employ a meticulous at-sea processing method to guarantee the highest quality. Within 30 minutes of catching, the langoustines are washed, dipped in melacide for preservation, and blast-frozen at -40°C until the core temperature reaches -25°C. Each batch is probe-checked for consistency, then glazed with 2% water for protection, boxed in 9kg master cartons (3×3 inner sleeves), and stored in our onboard cold store at -25°C. This rapid freezing process preserves the natural taste, texture, and nutritional value, setting our products apart from shore-frozen alternatives.
